pen in hand they stand

long lines of women through time

countless pages writ

journals letters more

words telling the history

men tend to omit

headed out and up
sights set on the mountaintop
to cleanse body mind soul

the past falls away
replaced by future glimpses
incentive to climb

some sing to all hearts
some ring gently in the soul
some just barely hum

ephemeral words
poems haiku story prose
universe one song

more and more seekers
found enlightenment the fey’s
fondest dreams achieved

second sight became
second nature perilous
gift bound in duty

nature reduced us
to rubble time and again
just water and wind

brown leaves cling to life
loathe to leave their lofty perch
roots await their warmth

sustenance for growth
shared dream of next year’s greening
spring’s awakening
