Books Can Light the Way

Books that Light the Way

The challenge to each human is creation. Will you create with reverence, or with neglect? – Gary Zukav “Seat of the Soul”

That is a valid question. In my quest to reach escape velocity, I need to understand the life I’m creating and do it with more care for the person I am as well as the one I aspire to be.

I think this past year my default has been neglect in more ways than I care to admit. It’s time for a serious reboot and to-do lists are not enough.

I’ve dusted off a few old books aka old friends for re-reading.

First up:

1. Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way. It’s written as a 12-week course. Helpful because realistically change is a journey. Trying to do it all at once overwhelms and usually ends in failure.

And

2. Sarah Ban Brechnact’s “Simple Abundance”. Daily quotes followed by a 1 page essay that provokes thought and inspiration. Sometimes I explore them further in my own journal. Today’s is “Standing Knee-Deep in a River and Dying of Thirst” (C&W song by Kathy Mattea). Books hold so many ideas, cosmic thoughts to mull and ponder.

Just as each teacher will appear as needed, so will the ideas coalesce and the path clear a little at a time so I can enjoy the journey and not rush to the end too quickly.
